THE STORY
A softer line through time
Scenes imagined. Actual watch photographs are in Watch details.
Before Omega became a name on a dial, it was the name of a movement. Louis Brandt began making watches in 1848. In 1894, the business introduced the 19-ligne Omega calibre, whose success eventually gave the company its name. The familiar signature began with the work hidden inside the case. OMEGA’s account of its early history
The exterior has a history worth lingering over, too. The geometric language associated with Art Deco spread through clothing, jewellery and interiors during the 1920s and 1930s. The Victoria and Albert Museum describes a world in which bold shapes and carefully considered detail could make everyday objects feel distinctly modern. That provides a useful design context for a rectangular watch, without assigning this particular Omega to an unverified year. V&A: Art Deco fashion
Imagine, simply as a scene, the last light falling across a dressing table. A jacket waits on a chair. The room is quiet, and there is time to choose one small thing carefully before leaving.
The photographs show a rectangular Omega-signed dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds at six and a metal expanding bracelet. Balance of Time describes the case as rose-gold-filled and curved, details that remain attributed to the catalog rather than independently established by these views. Its appeal begins with the order of the rectangle and the warmth of its appearance. “Tank-style” describes shape here; the model reference remains unknown. Full view · Second view
The photographs are the next chapter: a chance to study the actual case, dial and signs of age, after meeting the history behind the name.
