AN IMAGINED MOMENT
The last minute on the platform
Scenes imagined. Actual watch photographs are in Watch details.
Picture a station platform in the early twentieth century. A traveller settles a case at their feet and takes a pocket watch from a waistcoat. The train is not late. For once, they are early. Somewhere inside the station, a door closes; farther down the line, a whistle answers.
They read the dial once more, return the watch to its pocket, and keep a hand over it for a moment. There is no great speech, no grand farewell—only the quiet decision to step aboard. The carriage door opens. A journey can begin in the space between one minute and the next.
History, documented separately
The serial-number lookup for movement 178335 identifies Hamilton Grade 942, Model 1: an 18-size, 21-jewel, lever-set movement, with an estimated production year of 1903. This is movement identification and an estimated date, not evidence of who carried this watch or where it travelled.
The scene is inspired by the movement’s estimated 1903 production period; the people and journey are invented.

Please allow 7–10 days to complete a full service when servicing is not advertised as completed. This allowance is for servicing, not shipping. The asking price reflects the intended serviced, running condition; it does not mean service has already been performed. Chain inclusion: only the curb-link chain attached to the watch in the photograph is included. The second, separate rectangular-link chain shown alongside is not included. Chain metal, weight and clasp condition have not been verified; no solid-gold claim is made. A movement grade is the maker’s classification for its finish and technical features. It is not a condition rating, case-metal grade, model, serial number or universal score; a higher number is not automatically better. This Grade 942 is an 18-size, 21-jewel movement with nickel-finished plates and lever-operated hand setting. Factory adjustment in five positions, for temperature and for changing mainspring power was intended to keep its rate more consistent. These are original design specifications; current service and condition are described above.
Service pending; allow 7–10 days for full service upon sale. Present timing and cosmetic condition require inspection. Only the attached curb-link chain is included; the separate chain pictured alongside is excluded. Chain composition and clasp operation are unverified. The watch is presented honestly in the accompanying photographs.
