Balance of Time accepts selected vintage mechanical watch projects in Tucson and Southern Arizona. Each watch is considered as an individual object. The movement, dial, hands, case, crystal, crown, bracelet or strap, previous service, and visible alterations all contribute to the decision.
Not every mark should be removed. A worn case, aged dial, engraved caseback, or period repair may be part of the watch's history. The objective is not automatically to make an old watch look new. It is to improve function and stability while preserving meaningful originality whenever practical.
Initial evaluation
The evaluation considers movement identity, observable condition, likely service requirements, parts availability, originality concerns, and whether the project fits the workshop's capabilities. Photographs and owner history are helpful, but a complete repair scope generally requires physical inspection.
Possible restoration work
Depending on the watch, recommendations may involve movement inspection or service, regulation, crystal attention, careful case cleaning, strap replacement, stabilization, or documentation. Cosmetic refinishing is not treated as an automatic step.
Projects that may be referred
Highly specialized complications, severe damage, unavailable components, manufacturer-restricted systems, or work beyond the present equipment and experience of the workshop may be declined or referred. This protects both the watch and its owner.
